Experts from APEC member countries have suggested working towards a single mobile telephony roaming agreement to achieve greater integration between member economies, Peruvian state news service Agencia Andina reported.
Such an agreement "will enable people who travel with their mobile phones to communicate in a more economical and effective way," said Arnon Tubtiang, chair of the plenary session at the APEC telecommunications and information working group meeting. The meeting took place in Peru's capital Lima last week.
Tubtiang added that telecommunications experts presented other projects to develop telecommunications in the APEC economies.
During the meeting, APEC economies reaffirmed the goal of achieving universal access to broadband by 2015.
In Latin America, Chile, Mexico and Peru are members of the APEC bloc.
